Maroons Down W&L, 66-49

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Roanoke College jumped to an early 31-9 lead and never looked back in racing past Washington and Lee by a score of 66-49 in women's basketball on Saturday evening.

The Maroons (16-6, 13-5 ODAC) shot 46.7 percent from the floor during the game, and attempted 11 more shots than the Generals. Leading the Maroons was Cheryl Rhodes with a game-high 13 points, while Crystal Barrett chipped in with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Sophomore center Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) came off the bence to pace W&L (12-10, 9-9 ODAC) with 11 points and 10 rebounds, the first double-double of her career. Sophomore forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) added 11 points, while sophomore guard Carter Thomas (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) tallied eight rebounds and four assists. W&L committed 27 turnovers in the loss.

The Generals will return to action on Monday when they travel to Norfolk to face the Blue Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
