LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee hit its first 10 shots of the game in running past Hollins University by a score of 77-42 in women's basketball on Thursday in the Warner Center.
The Generals (12-9, 9-8 ODAC) shot 58.8 percent from the floor in the first half, opening a 25-4 lead just 5:54 into the game. W&L took commanding 52-16 lead into the halftime break. Hollins opened the second half on a 9-0 run, but could never close the gap below 25 points.
Senior guard Jessica Morton (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) hit for 16 points and tallied four assists in the final home game of her career. Sophomore center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) notched her ninth double-double of the season, amassing 16 points and 10 rebounds in just 16 minutes of action. Also in double-figures for the Generals was sophomore forward Sarah Schmidt (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) with 13 points.
Junior guard Rosse Hopkins (Roanoke, Va./Northside) notched 16 points to lead Hollins (4-16, 1-15 ODAC).
For the game, W&L connected on 44.8 percent of its shots from the floor, while holding Hollins to just 27.6 percent. The Generals also took care of the ball, committing a season-low 12 turnovers.
W&L will return to action on Saturday, February 12, when it travels to Roanoke College for a 5:00 pm contest.
