Generals Defeated By Randolph-Macon Win ODAC Women's Hoops

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Meredith Roberts (Vienna, Va./James Madison) scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Randolph-Macon to a 64-54 decision over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va.

The game was tightly contested throughout the first half until the Yellow Jackets ended the half on a 8-0 run that sent Randolph-Macon to the locker room with a 34-26 lead. Sophomore forward Allison King (Cary, N.C./Cary) scored five of her 11 points during the eight-point stretch.

W&L (7-13, 5-11 ODAC) would cut the lead to 36-32 after a lay-up by junior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) with 16:14 to play. However, R-MC scored 11 unanswered points over the game's next 3:46 to take a commanding 47-32 lead. The Generals closed to eight points twice late in the second half, but Randolph-Macon iced the game with five free throws in the final 2:33.

R-MC (11-10, 10-8 ODAC) was led by Roberts and sophomore center Cristin Ethridge (Clarksville, Md./River Hill), who tallied 10 points and grabbed four rebounds.

Babst scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Generals. Junior forward Sarah Schmidt (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) added 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while junior forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) was held to nine points.

The Generals will return to action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Emory, Va., to take on Emory & Henry at 7:00 pm.
