ASHLAND, Va. -- Junior forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored a game-high 24 points and claimed eight rebounds to help lead Washington and Lee past Randolph-Macon, 70-60, in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Va.
Randolph-Macon (1-4, 0-2) held a 19-18 lead with 11:20 remaining in the first half, but the Generals went on a 15-9 run in the last 11:00 of the period to take a 33-28 halftime lead. The Generals then cruised to the 10-point victory.
For the game, W&L (2-3, 1-1) shot 53.2 percent.
Junior center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) gave W&L 13 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) notched 12 points and 10 boards.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Sarah Crider's 15 points, five rebounds and five steals. Meredith Roberts added 11 points.
The Generals will be back in action on Wednesday evening as they travel to Lynchburg, Va., to take on Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 7:00 pm.
