W&L Men's Basketball Drops ODAC Opener to Randolph-Macon, 61-44

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Leading by just one point (37-36) with 7:14 remaining in the game, Randolph-Macon surged on a 24-8 run the rest of the way to defeat Washington and Lee, 61-44, in men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.

The Generals (0-6, 0-1) trailed by only two-points (27-25) at the half, but shot just 32.5 percent for the game. Randolph-Macon won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Generals 35-19 for the game.

The Yellow Jackets (2-3, 1-1) were led by sophomore center Jared Mills (Reading, Pa./Reading Central Catholic), who scored 13 points, gathered 11 rebounds and dished off seven assists. He was joined in double figures by sophomore guard Tim Smith (Jacksonville, Fla./Old Mill) and freshman forward Kurt Bergmann (Fallsington, Pa./Pennsbury), who each scored 11 points. Bergmann added nine rebounds as well.

The Generals were led by sophomore forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon), who scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior forward Bob Bustamante (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) also scored 13 points.

Washington and Lee will be in action again tomorrow as it hosts Virginia Wesleyan for a 3:00 pm contest.
