W&L Falls to No. 2 Hampden-Sydney, 82-50

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's basketball team dropped an 82-50 loss to the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday night in Hampden-Sydney, Va.

Hampden-Sydney entered the contest ranked No. 2 in the latest Division III national poll. The Tigers (5-0, 1-0 ODAC) jumped ahead early and cruised into halftime with a 42-23 lead over the Generals. They continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring the Generals 40-27 for the 82-50 margin of victory.

W&L was led by sophomore forward Bob Bustamante (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus), who posted team-highs in both points (10) and rebounds (7). Freshman guard Toussaint Crawford (Laurel, Md./Palotti) also tossed in 10 points for the Generals.

The Tigers were led by Jack Jirak and Matt McKeag, each of whom tallied 15 points on the game. Brett Thompson led Hampden-Sydney on the boards with 11. The Tigers outrebounded W&L 55-27 on the night.

W&L will return to action on December 8th, when it plays host to the Wasps of Emory & Henry. The game will be the first home contest of the year for the Generals. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm in the Warner Center.
