LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior guard Ted Davis (Clifton Forge, Va./Alleghany) scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting to help lead Shenandoah to a 63-61 win over Washington and Lee in men's basketball action on Wednesday evening.
The Generals (0-5) trailed by seven points (57-50) with 3:39 remaining, but surged on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 61-61 with 50 seconds remaining. With the score still tied, W&L had the ball and a chance to win the game with 38 seconds left, but Davis recorded a steal and a layup to put the Hornets (3-1) up by two.
W&L once again had a chance to win the game, but senior guard Chad Braley (Huntington, W.Va./Paul Blazer) misfired with a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Sophomore forward Scott Hettermann (Falls Church, Va./Landon) scored a career-high 19 points, while freshman center David Bode (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) notched a career-high 14 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Will Cotter (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) tallied 11 points and a career-high seven assists and Braley added 11 points.
Davis was the only double-digit scorer for the Hornets.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on Saturday afternoon as it hosts Randolph-Macon in a 3:00 pm contest.
