GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee swimming teams were in action on Sunday afternoon and both the men's and women's squad were defeated by Gettysburg. The men fell by a score of 111-93, while the women were defeated, 142-55.
Leading the way for the men (3-1) was senior Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and freshman Eric Ritter (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook), who both set pool records in taking first place honors. Hayes notched his mark in the 100 fly, posting a time of 52.53, while Ritter broke the record in the 100 back with a time of 53.92. The duo teamed with senior Mike Miraglia (Rockville, Md./Rockville) and sophomore Brett Burns (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) to win the 200 medley relay as well, finishing the event in 1:40.36.
Miraglia won the 100 breast (1:03.56) and sophomore Patrick Frankfort (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) claimed first place in the 400 IM with a time of 4:31.31.
On the women's (0-4) side, sophomore Kelli Austin (Niles, Mich./Niles) took home first place honors in the 100 (56.93) and 200 free (2:04.52). Sophomore Blair Huffman (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) placed second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:58.66.
The women will be in action again on Nov. 29 as they host Randolph-Macon Woman's College in a 6:30 pm meet. The men will be underway again on Dec. 1-2 at the Franklin & Marshall Tournament. That tournament is slated to begin at 10:00 am.
