LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior fullback Paul Wallace (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) scored his first goal of the season six minutes into the first overtime on a penalty kick as top-seeded Washington and Lee escaped the quarterfinal round of the ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament with a 2-1 victory over eighth-seeded Guilford.
The final goal was set up after junior midfielder Noam Sorek (Atlit, Israel/Ort Hiriat Bialik) saved a header by Andy Crawford (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy) from going into the net with his hand and was given a red card.
The win gave the Generals their ninth consecutive victory and ensured that W&L will host the semifinal and final rounds on Friday and Saturday.
Junior midfielder Rick Schnatz (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) started the scoring at the 40:57 mark on a one-timer off an assist from sophomore forward Michael Stoeckle (Blacksburg, Va./North Cross).
Guilford (6-11-1) tied the game in the 70th minute on a goal off a penalty kick from Sorek.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) made three saves in the net for W&L, while freshman goalkeeper Ryan Fitzgibbons (Dayville, Conn./Killingly) kept the Quakers in the game by making six saves.
W&L (16-1) will host fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon on Friday with the time to be determined on Wednesday.
