DANVILLE, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team posted a win over Roanoke, 15-8, 12-15, 14-16, 15-2, 15-6, but dropped matches to Savannah A&D (6-15, 5-15, 11-15) and Maryville (12-15, 7-15, 12-15) in the second day of the Averett College Invitational on Saturday.
Against Roanoke, the Generals were led by junior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 18 kills, 13 digs, and eight blocks. Junior outside hitter Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) amassed 17 kills and nine blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) added 26 digs and six blocks.
Senior setters Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) and Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) notched 21 and 26 assists, respectively. Saulsbury added 13 digs.
In the loss to Savannah A&D, Ruckert again led the Generals with 14 kills and eight digs. Fischbeck totaled 11 kills and three blocks, while Kimmel and freshman outside hitter Mary-Wommack Barton (Austin, Texas/St. StephenÕs) notched 14 and 13 digs, respectively. Saulsbury totaled 21 assists.
Against Maryville, junior outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) totaled seven kills and three blocks, while Fischbeck totaled six kills and four blocks. Saulsbury recorded 12 assists and nine digs.
W&L will be in action again on Friday as it participates in the ODAC Tournament held at Lynchburg College. Opponent and time will be determined early in the week.
