DANVILLE, Va. -- Three different Generals tallied goals as Washington and Lee set a school record with eight consecutive victories in a 3-0 shutout of Averett on Saturday afternoon in men's soccer action.
The win broke the record set earlier in the season as the Generals started the year with seven straight wins. The game also marked the ninth shutout of the season for W&L (15-1).
Freshman midfielder Jacob Stoehr (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) started the scoring at the 5:08 mark on an unassisted goal.
Junior forward Andrew Grimes (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) scored off an assist from junior midfielder David Kodack (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) with two minutes gone in the second half.
Sophomore forward Brad Murphy (Mantoloking, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) rounded out the scoring on an unassisted goal at the 89:57 mark off an assist by sophomore midfielder Mark Reams (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass).
Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Foley (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) notched his fifth shutout of the season by making eight saves. Chris Barokas made five saves in the net for Averett (8-10-1).
The Generals have ended their regular season schedule and will now move into the ODAC Tournament. W&L will host a quarterfinal contest on Tuesday with the date and time to be determined on Sunday.
