Roanoke Downs Washington and Lee in Volleyball, 3-0

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Roanoke defeated Washington and Lee, 15-4, 15-7, 15-6, in front of an estimated crowd of 1,850 in women's volleyball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.

The game was W&L's first since losing freshman outside hitter Kristin Shelton (Austin, Texas/McCallum) in a fatal vehicle accident on Sunday morning and marked Roanoke's first win over W&L since 1991 and the first time Washington and Lee has lost to an ODAC opponent at home since the 1994 season.

The Generals (17-6, 8-2) were led by junior middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 10 kills, nine digs, and two blocks. Junior outside hitter Leslie Fischbeck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) notched nine kills and seven blocks as well.

Senior setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) amassed a team-high 13 assists.

The win upped RoanokeÕs record to 15-7 overall, 7-2 in the ODAC.

Washington and Lee will be in action again on Saturday as it participates in the Averett College Invitational.
