W&L Defeats Greensboro, 75-74, in Overtime

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior forward Scott Hudson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) scored a season-high 19 points and claimed a career-high 12 rebounds to lead Washington and Lee to a 75-74 overtime win over Greensboro on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.

Washington and Lee (4-5) led by as many as eight points (51-43) with 9:59 remaining in the second half, however, the Pride (3-6) fought back to tie the game at 66-66 with five seconds remaining. W&L's Brian Ricketts (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) was then fouled by Greensboro junior foward Khalid Greenaway (St. Croix, Virgin Islands/St. Joseph) as time expired sending the senior center to the line with a chance to win the game.

Ricketts, W&L's top free throw shooter (78.4%), missed both free throws and the game went to overtime.

In the extra frame, W&L assumed a quick 69-66 advantage as junior guard Chad Braley (Huntington, W.Va./Paul Blazer) hit a three-pointer with 4:39 remaining. Greensboro tied the game at 69-69 with 4:12 left, but the Generals would hold on for the one-point win.

Junior guard Will Ballard (Elkin, N.C./Elkin) added a season-high 17 points, while senior point guard Walt Plyler (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) tallied five points and a season-high seven assists.

Greensboro was led by senior guard Shannon Scales (Winston-Salem, N.C./East Forsyth), who tallied 19 points and nine rebounds. Senior center Marlon Perry (Greensboro, N.C./Northeast Guilford) scored 17 points and claimed eight rebounds.

Washington and Lee will return to the court on Wednesday as it hosts Lynchburg College at 7:00 pm.
