W&L Wins Third in a Row; Downs Guilford, 73-67

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore forward Bob Bustamante (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) scored a career-high 20 points to help Washington and Lee to a 73-67 win over Guilford on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center. The win was W&L's third in a row.

The Generals (3-4, 3-2) trailed by three points (33-30) at the half, but took the lead at 41-40 with 13:32 remaining and never looked back. The lead swelled to as many as 11 points (63-52) with 4:10 remaining, but Guilford (3-6, 2-2) clawed back to cut its deficit to just four points (66-62) with 56 seconds remaining.

However, junior guard Chad Braley (Huntington, W.Va./Paul Blazer) hit six-of-six free throws in the final 55 seconds the seal the win for W&L. Braley ended the game with 12 points. Senior center Brian Ricketts (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Guilford was led by junior guard David Zelickson's (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) 15 points. Junior center Todd Ashworth (High Point, N.C./Southwest Guilford) tallied 10 points and 14 rebounds, while freshman guard Paul Kindem (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) totaled 14 points and three assists.

Washington and Lee will return to the court on Saturday as it hosts Roanoke in a 4:00 pm contest.
