GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Washington and Lee held a 33-30 halftime advantage, but couldn't hold on as Guilford posted a 70-55 win over the Generals in women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.
W&L (9-7, 6-6) shot 52.4 percent from the floor in the first half, but could manage only 36 percent in the second half allowing the Quakers (11-4, 8-3) to pull away.
Guilford led by just three points (51-48) with 7:05 remaining in the game before surging on a 10-0 run over the next 2:18 to take a commanding 61-48 lead in cruising to the win.
Sophomore forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) led the Generals with 16 points, while sophomore center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) tallied 11 points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots. Senior guard Jessica Morton (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) chipped in with 11 points and three assists.
Guilford was led by Arden Miller, who scored 17 points and notched a game-high nine rebounds. Megan Barlow scored 16 points, while Marlo Biernacki tallied 12 points and Amy Evans totaled 11 points.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on Tuesday as it hosts Randolph-Macon WomanÕs College in a 7:00 pm contest.
