STEVENSON, Md. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team shot 44 percent from the field and forced 28 turnovers in defeating Villa Julie College, 70-43, on Sunday afternoon in Stevenson, Md.
The Generals (8-6) held Villa Julie to just one field goal over a 13-minute stretch of the first half en route to a 30-15 halftime advantage.
Senior guard Jessica Morton (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) led W&L with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor. Sophomore forward Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) tallied 13 points and six rebounds, while sophomore center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) notched nine points and five rebounds.
Villa Julie (2-13) was led by Delena DeShields' 23-point performance on 9-of-15 shooting. Toni Sumpter gathered a game-high eight rebounds and six assists in the losing effort.
Washington and Lee will be in action again on Thursday as it travels to Lynchburg for a 7:00 pm contest.
