W&L Falls to Eastern Mennonite in Overtime, 71-62

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Eastern Mennonite shot just 36 percent from the floor, but hit 33-of-44 free throws to claim a 71-62 overtime win over Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.

In a nip-and-tuck game throughout, EMU (6-9, 3-7) held a three-point lead (57-54) with 4.2 seconds remaining in regulation. W&L junior forward Will Ballard (Elkin, N.C./Elkin) then hit a leaning three-pointer with 0.9 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

In the extra frame, EMU hit 10-of-14 free throws and held W&L to just five points to claim the win. The Royals were led by Joel Kaufman's game-high 24 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the foul line. Quincy Longacre tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds and Neal Lewis notched 15 points and 10 rebounds to help the Eastern Mennonite cause. For the game, Eastern Mennonite turned the ball over 25 times, but outrebounded W&L, 51-36.

Washington and Lee (5-9, 4-7) was led by sophomore forward Bob Bustamante (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus), who scored 15 points. Senior center Scott Hudson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) tallied 14 points and nine rebounds, while Ballard finished the game with 10 points.

The Generals will be in action again on Wednesday as they host top-ranked Hampden-Sydney in a 7:00 pm contest.
