LEXINGTON, Va. -- W&L forced 24 Virginia Wesleyan turnovers and held the Blue Marlins to just 2-of-17 shooting from behind the three-point arc to post a 60-52 win on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.
After trailing 18-16 at the break, W&L shot 48 percent and scored 44 points in the second half. Sporting a 39-37 advantage with 7:17 remaining in the game, the Generals went on an 8-0 run over the next 2:30 to post a 10-point lead (47-37), before holding on for its second straight win.
The Generals (2-4, 2-2) were led in scoring by junior guard Chad Braley (Huntington, W.Va./Paul Blazer), who posted 13 points and five rebounds. Seniors Brian Ricketts (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School) and Scott Hudson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) both notched double-doubles in the post as Ricketts totaled 10 points and 11 rebounds and Hudson tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds. Hudson also collected a career-high five blocked shots.
Virginia Wesleyan (2-7, 0-4) was led by sophomore forward McKinley Ford (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville), who had 16 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Carl Lentz (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) collected 12 points and senior center Ron Yuhasz (Dover, Del./Ceaser Rodney) posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Washington and Lee will return to the court on Tuesday as it hosts Guilford College in a 7:00 pm contest.
