Guilford Drops W&L, 91-83, In Women's Basketball

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Arden Miller (Landenberg, Pa./Sanford School) connected on a school-record seven-of-eight three-pointers en route to a career-high 31 points in leading Guilford College to a 91-83 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball.

Washington and Lee (6-5, 4-4 ODAC) opened the game on a 14-2 run, but the Quakers (7-4, 4-3 ODAC) were able to regroup and stake claim to a 42-38 halftime lead, thanks in large part to the shooting of Miller. She entered the half with 16 points, including four-of-four from behind the arc.

W&L, however, refused to die, tying the score at 75-75 with 5:26 remaining. From that point on, Guilford seized control of the contest, securing the win with clutch free throw shooting, connecting on 20-of-24 on the afternoon.

Washington and Lee senior Ansley Miller (Athens, Ga./Athens Academy) led the Generals with 22 points, including 9-of-10 from the foul line. Other Generals in double-figures included sophomores Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md/Centennial) and Sarah Schmidt (Topeka, Kan./Hayden), each with 15 points, and center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), who added her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Guilford also placed two other players in double figures. Sophomore forward Megan Barlow (Bethesda, Md./Chevy Chase) tallied 23 points and 11 rebounds, while junior guard Kerrie Campbell (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley) notched 16 points.

Of note, Washington and Lee made 89.5 percent of their attempts from the charity stripe (17-of-19). Guilford received a game-high eight assists from sophomore guard Erin Beacham (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett School).

W&L will return to action on January 20, when it travels to Randolph-Macon Woman's College for a 7:00 pm contest.
