MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team won the championship of the Maryville Invitational by defeating Westminster College, 15-13, 7-15, 15-6, 16-14, and Maryville College, 7-15, 15-9, 15-9, 15-9.
In the opening match, the Generals were led by senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart), who totaled 11 kills and 21 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart) tallied 13 kills, 13 digs, and five block assists, while junior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) registered six kills and 14 digs. Junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) led the Generals with 25 assists.
In match two, sophomore outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) totaled 14 kills, 12 digs, five solo blocks, two block assists, and four aces to lead the Generals (9-2). Ruckert amassed 15 kills and 12 digs, Hays tallied eight kills and 16 digs, and Reinhart notched nine kills and 23 digs. Kline and junior setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) each totaled 22 assists.
Ruckert and Charbonnet were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.
W&L returns to action on Tuesday evening as it hosts Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 6:30 pm.
