LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee outshot Southern Virginia College 24-4 en route to a 3-0 shutout over the Knights for its first win of the season.
W&L (1-1), scored early and often to take control of the match. The first goal was scored by senior forward Jamie Parker (Pittsford, N.Y/Pittsford Sutherland) off a cross from sophomore forward Andrew Grimes (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) just 10:45 into the match. Sophomore back Paul Wallace (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) then followed with a free kick off the post from about 30 yards out only 30 seconds later. With only 14:55 gone in the match, Grimes scored the third and final goal for the Generals off an assist from senior midfielder Jason Miller (Boone, N.C./Watauga). The Knight goalkeepers were forced to make eight saves to keep their team within the three goal margin.
The Generals will travel to Randolph-Macon on Friday, September 19 for their first ODAC match of the young season. Gametime is set for 1:30 pm.
