ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's basketball team (5-16, 4-11 ODAC) trailed Randolph-Macon (18-4, 13-3 ODAC) 38-9 at halftime and never caught up in losing at Crenshaw Gymnasium on Monday night by a final score of 81-44.
The Generals shot only 12.5 percent (3-of-24) from the floor in the first half, while the Yellow Jackets shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23), as R-MC took the 29-point halftime lead. The Yellow Jackets outscored W&L 43-35 in the second half, running away with the 37-point victory.
W&L was led by junior center Rich Peterson (Trumbull, Conn./ Trumbull), who posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Randolph-Macon's senior forward Matt Meehan (Ramstein, Germany/ Ramstein American) paced the Yellow Jackets with a double-double of his own, scoring 18 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
The Generals will host Lynchburg (5-16, 4-13 ODAC) on Wednesday evening in the Warner Center. Tip-off will be at 7:30. The game will have major implications on the W&L's position in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. The game will be the final home contest in the career of senior guard Kevin Cobbin (Jacksonville, Fla./ Bolles).
