SALEM, Va. -- Fifth-seeded W&L committed 28 turnovers, but outrebounded fourth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan 46-22 in posting its first-ever ODAC Tournament win, 61-49 on Thursday afternoon. The Generals will now face top-seeded Randolph-Macon tomo rrow at 1:00.
The Generals (13-12) assumed the lead early in the contest and went up by as many as nine points (21-12) with 8:08 remaining in the half. The Marlins (15-10) cut the W&L lead to three on a couple of occasions before the Generals pushed their advan tage back to five points (29-24) at the half.
Virginia Wesleyan surged on a 9-2 run during the first 1:59 of the second stanza to take a 33-31 lead and also led 36-34 with 15:26 remaining, but would never lead again as the Generals went on to post the 12-point win.
Junior guard Jessica Morton (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) posted 15 points and three assists to lead the Generals. Freshman center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds which were both career-highs. It was her second double-double of the season. Senior forward Chrissy Burghardt (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Virginia Wesleyan was paced by Nancy Mattox with 10 points.
