W&L Escapes From Eastern Mennonite With A 66-61 Win

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team assured itself of the fifth seed in the ODAC Tournament by defeating Eastern Mennonite, 66-61, in its regular season finale on Wednesday evening. The Generals will meet either Brid gewater or Virginia Wesleyan in the #4-#5 game of the ODAC Tournament on Thursday, February 25 at 2:30 pm.

EMU (6-17, 4-14) came storming out of the gate to the tune of an 8-0 lead early on, but the Generals would fight back to outscore the Royals 30-15 in the reaminder of the half to take a 30-23 halftime advantage.

The Generals (12-12, 11-9) built their lead to as large as 15 points at 54-39, before EMU would make a furious run late in the game. The Royals chopped the W&L lead to just two points at 63-61 with 21 seconds left, but the Generals held them off fo r the win.

Freshman center Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while junior guard Ansley Miller (Athens, Ga./Athens Academy) tallied nine points. Freshman center Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) chipped in with eight points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks.

Eastern Mennonite was led by guard Lori Abbott, who scored 20 points, all of which came in the second half.
