LEXINGTON, Va. -- Emory and Henry used a 14-2 run midway through the second half to turn a six-point deficit into a six point led in defeating Washington and Lee, 70-64 in women's basketball action at the Warner Center on Thursday night.
Emory and Henry took a quick 10-2 lead with 16:30 remaining in the first half. The Generals tied the game at 19 with 7:09 left in the first half. The Wasps then built the lead back up to five (28-23) at halftime.
The Generals outscored E&H 23-12 in the first 6:11 of the second half to take a 46-40 lead and led 50-44 with 11:26 left in the game. The Wasps then went on the 14-2 run over the next 4:27 to take a six-point lead (58-52) with 7:14 left and held th at six-point lead for the remainder of the game.
W&L was led by senior forward Chrissy Burghardt, who scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in her final game at the Warner Center. Freshman center Jessica Mentz recorder her sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. Junior guard Ansley Miller scored 14 points, all in the second half.
E&H was paced by freshman guard Kelly Smith, whol led all scorers with 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Freshman guard Karen Pursifull scored 16 point on 3-of-8 three-point shooting.
The Generals will look to get back into the the win column when they travel to Roanoke College in Salem, Va. for a 5:00 contest on Saturday evening.
