W&L Volleyball Wins ODAC Tournament Opener over Guilford, 3-0

ROANOKE, Va. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team began its defense of its 1998 ODAC Championship with a 15-5, 15-2, 15-5 win over 8th-seeded Guilford on Friday evening at Hollins University.

The Generals will face the winner of the Eastern Mennonite-Emory & Henry match on Saturday at 10:30 am. The Championship match is slated to begin at 3:00 pm.

W&L (20-6) was led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 10 kills, three aces, and three total blocks. Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) tallied seven kills, two aces, and 10 digs, while junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) notched a team-high 17 assists.

Guilford ends its season with a 3-20 overall record.

The 1999 All-ODAC teams were also announced on Friday evening and the Generals had three players honored. Ruckert was named to the First Team for the second year in a row and was also named the ODAC Player of the Year. Reinhart earned her third straight First Team selection, while sophomore outside hitter Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) was named to the Second Team.
