W&L Men's Soccer Upends Roanoke, 5-2

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team triumphed over Roanoke College by a count of 5-2 on Wednesday in Lexington,Va.

Sophomore forward Andrew Grimes (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) led the Generals (3-5, 2-2 ODAC) with three goals. He opened the scoring just :36 into the game when he slid a shot past Roanoke goalkeeper Brian Zaks. Regi Francois tied the game at the 17:09 mark, beating W&L freshman goalkeeper Brad Hearn (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton). Grimes scored again just 6:50 into the second half to put the Generals ahead 2-1. Senior forward Jamie Parker (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) notched a penalty kick goal before Grimes and freshman back Kevin Bibona (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) scored the insurance goals for the Generals. Junior midfielder Jon Wilson (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads) recorded two assists on the game for W&L. The final goal for the Maroons (4-6, 2-3 ODAC) came at the 86:56 mark on a shot by Lee Johnson.

For its next game, W&L will host Emory & Henry on Friday, October 8. Gametime is set for 4:30 pm.
