BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Sophomore forward Andrew Grimes (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) scored two goals to help Washington and Lee to a 4-2 victory over Bridgewater in ODAC men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.
Grimes tallied the game's first goal off an assist from junior back Jacek Mucha (Houston, Texas/AWTY International) at the 11:13 mark. However, Bridgewater would fight back to take a 2-1 lead as Mike Colavito scored goals at the 18:50 and 27:53 marks. Colavito's first goal came via an assist from Eric Powell and the second was off an assist from Nick Forster.
W&L then tied the score at 2-2 as senior midfielder Jason Miller (Boone, N.C./Watauga) tallied an unassisted goal at the 30:37 mark.
After the half, W&L assumed control of the match as senior back Matt Arnold (Ware Neck, Va./Gloucester) scored off an assist from senior forward Jamie Parker (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) with 68:00 gone-by. Grimes scored an unassisted goal with 33 seconds remaining to seal the win.
Junior Jordan Ginsberg (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) made three saves in goal for the Generals (9-6, 6-3). Jon McClure registered six saves in goal for the Eagles (0-13-2, 0-7-1).
W&L outshot Bridgewater, 13-9, and took six corner kicks as opposed to two for the Eagles.
W&L will return to action again on Saturday when it hosts Salisbury State for non-conference match with the Seagulls. Gametime is set for 11:00 am.
