LEXINGTON, Va. -- The No. 4 seeded Washington and Lee women's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament with a 1-0 shutout win over the No. 5 seeded Blue Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College.
The only goal of the match was scored at the 6:52 mark by W&L freshman midfielder Ruth-Hill Yeilding (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook). Yeilding scored on a header off of a flip-throw from the sideline by freshman midfielder Jenny Thomas (High Point, N.C./Central). Goalkeeper Janine Swanson kept the Marlins (7-7-3) in the contest by stopping seven General shots. For the game, W&L outshot the Marlins by a count of 18-5.
Senior Stephanie McKnight (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and junior Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) split time in goal, sharing the shutout for the Generals.
W&L (11-6) will return to action on Friday, October 29, when it travels to Lynchburg College to face the No. 1 seeded Hornets in the ODAC Tournament Semifinals at 12:30 pm.
