NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer team lost to Christopher Newport University by a score of 2-0 on Saturday in Newport News, Va.
W&L (2-5) battled the Captains to a scoreless first half in which each team attempted seven shots. CNU took control of the game at the onset of the second half scoring both their goals within a seven minute span. Ryan Whinery tallied the first goal for the Captains less than three minutes into the second half. CNU (6-2) notched their final goal at the 54:06 mark on a shot by Shadi Abi-Saab.
For the game, CNU outshot the Generals by a count of 14-8. Freshman Brad Hearn (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) recorded four saves in goal for Washington and Lee.
The Generals will host conference rival Roanoke College on Wednesday, October 6. Gametime is set for 4:00 pm on the Liberty Hall Fields.
