ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball posted a 2-2 record in the Emory University Invitational held in Atlanta, Ga., over the weekend. On Friday evening, W&L was defeated by Averett College, 15-10, 17-15, 15-10 and defeated North Carolina Wesleyan, 14-16, 15-6, 12-15, 15-8, 15-11. On Saturday, the Generals defeated Greensboro College, 15-12, 16-14, 15-6 and were defeated by 12th-ranked Emory University, 5-15, 15-11, 1-15, 14-16.
Against Greensboro, W&L (15-5) was led by sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who totaled 13 kills and 11 digs. Senior outside hitter Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) tallied eight kills, four total blocks, and 10 digs, while junior setter Katherine Kline (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) notched a team-high 22 assists.
In the loss to Emory, Reinhart was credited with 15 kills and 18 digs to lead the Generals. Ruckert amassed 12 kills and 19 digs and junior outside hitter Tori Hays (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) tallied 19 digs. Kline added 29 assists.
Ruckert was named to the all-tournament team and Reinhart's kill totals for the weekend gave her the W&L record for career kills surpassing Hilary MartinÕs (1994-97) total of 1,091. Reinhart is bearing down on the ODAC record for that category as well.
W&L's next contest will be on Thursday as it hosts Eastern Mennonite in a 6:30 pm contest.
