W&L Falls To Roanoke, 71-56

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team (2-7, 1-4 ODAC) let an early three-point second half lead (34-31) slip away and fell to arch-rival Roanoke (7-2, 5-0 ODAC), 71-56, on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.

After falling behind by an 18-6 score only 5:05 into the game, the Generals went on a 23-11 run to tie the game at 29-29 with 4:07 left in the first half. The two teams went into the half tied at 31.

The Generals took a 34-31 lead with 19:09 left in the second half, but the Maroons then went on a 10-2 run to take a 41-36 lead with 15:06 left and never looked back as they cruised to the 15-point victory.

W&L was led by freshman center Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./ Centennial), who posted a double-double with a career high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman forward Megan Babst (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Fox Chapel Area) also posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Ansley Miller (Athens, Ga./ Athens Academy) chipped in with 10 points of her own.

Roanoke was led by junior forward Cheryl Rhodes (Roanoke, Va./ Cave Spring) and senior guard Toree Morris (Salem, Va./ Glenvar), who both scored 14 points.

The Generals will look to get back on the winning track when they travel to Lynchburg College on Tuesday evening for a 7:00 tip-off with the Hornets.
