Roanoke Defeats W&L, 72-63, in ODAC Basketball

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Trailing 41-30 with 16:04 remaining in the second half, Roanoke used a 20-2 run over the next 6:48 to take a commanding 50-43 lead in posting a 72-63 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at th e Warner Center.

Roanoke shot 50 percent in the second half compared to just 34 percent for W&L and outrebounded the Generals 45-40.

The Maroons (5-6, 2-3) were led offensively by junior guard Paris Butler (Springfield, Va./West Springfield), who posted a game-high 16 points. He was joined in double-figures by sophomore forward Jason Strickland (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant), who sco red 15 points, junior forward Kyle Murphy (Farmville, Va./Fuqua), who scored 14 points, and sophomore center Alex Phillips (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring), who scored 11 points.

The Generals (3-7, 2-4) were led by junior forward Scott Hudson (Basking Ridge, Va./Ridge), who scored 14 points and hauled in seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Will Ballard (Elkin, N.C./Elkin) tallied 12 points and sophomore guard Chad Braley (Huntington, W.Va./Paul Blazer) totaled 10 points for W&L.

W&L will resume its schedule with a non-conference affair at Dickinson College on January 11 at 7:00 pm.
