W&L Breaks Out of Slump; Downs Guilford, 87-69

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Four players scored in double-figures led by junior forward Scott Hudson's (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) career-high 21 points to lead Washington and Lee to an 87-69 win over Guilford in ODAC men's basketball action at the Warner Center on Saturday afternoon.

The win snapped a nine-game losing streak for the Generals (4-13, 3-8).

The opening half featured six ties and four lead changes before W&L assumed the lead for good with 3:52 remaining in the first half, surging on an 11-3 run to close out the half with a 39-32 lead.

The Generals continued their impressive play in the second half, opening with a 10-3 run to take a 49-35 advantage with 14:36 remaining. Guilford (3-16, 2-12) would not challenge from that point on, as W&L cruised to the 18-point victory.

W&L shot 62.3 percent from the field, including 68 percent in the second half, while Guilford was held to just 40.7 percent shooting for the game.

Hudson, who was 9-of-10 from the floor, was joined in double-figures for Washington and Lee by junior center Rich Peterson (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull), who had 17 points, junior guard Matt Jackson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster), who had 15 points, and sophomor e forward Will Ballard (Elkin, N.C./Elkin), who had 10 points.

Guilford was led by sophomore forward Jon Evans (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville), who tallied 15 points and five rebounds.

The Generals will be in action again on Mon., Feb. 1, when they host Bridgewater College in a 7:30 pm contest.
