NORFOLK, Va. -- Junior center Rich Peterson (Trumbull, Conn/Trumbull) scored a season-high 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor, but it wasn't enough as Washington and Lee fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 82-75, in ODAC men's basketball on Saturday afternoon.
Peterson also hit all six of his free throw attempts and gathered nine rebounds and two blocks in the contest. As a team, the Generals (3-5, 2-2) hit 20-of-21 free throws (95%) and shot 46 percent from the floor, but the Marlins (6-1, 3-0) nailed 54 perc ent of their shots, including 53 percent of their three-point attempts (9-17).
Junior forwards Brian Ricketts (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis Univ. School) and Scott Hudson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) each scored 10 points for W&L.
VWC was led by senior guard Troy Walton (St. Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury), who had 21 points and junior guard Tim Petrillo (Woodbury, N.J./West Deptford), who had 20 points.
W&L will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 7, when it faces Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg, Va. Tip time is set for 7:00 pm.
