W&L Pulls Big Second Half Run, Thumps Hollins, 76-59

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womenUs basketball team (4-7, 3-4 ODAC) used a 39-11 run during a stretch of 11:57 in the second half to propel themselves to 76-59 victory over Hollins University (1-8, 0-7 ODAC) at the Warner Center on Thu rsday evening.

The Generals started the game off hot, hitting five of their first six shots and building an early 12-3 lead with 15:54 left in the half. However, Hollins fought back to take the lead at halftime, by a score of 32-30 and took a 36-30 lead with 17:11 le ft in the game. The Generals then used their 39-11 run to take a 69-47 lead with 5:14 remaining and cruised to the 17-point victory.

W&L was led by senior forward Chrissy Burghardt (Rockaway, N.J./ Morris Hills), who recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds. She was followed closely by freshman center Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./ Centen nial), who scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. The double-double was MentzUs third of the season. Junior guard Ansley Miller (Athens, Ga./ Athens Academy) had 16 points of her own.

Hollins was led by sophomore guard RoseeU Hopkins (Roanoke, Va./Northside), who posted a game-high 23 points.

On Saturday, the Generals will be looking to extend their season-best winning streak to three, when the travel to Ashland, Va., to face the defending ODAC regular season champion Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets. Tip-off will be at 2:00.
