LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Junior guard Ansley Miller (Athens, Ga./Athens Academy) and senior forward Chrissy Burghardt (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) combined to score 39 points in leading Washington and Lee to a 78-62 win over Lynchburg in ODAC women's bas ketball on Tuesday evening.
The Generals (3-7, 2-4) assumed a 33-31 halftime lead and extended their advantage to 56-44 with 9:48 remaining in the second half. However, the Hornets (3-8, 2-5) would come back to cut the Generals' lead to just two points (62-60) with 4:18 remaining in the game.
W&L then went on a 16-2 run to close out the game in producing the 16-point victory. W&L shot 41 percent from the floor and hit four-of-seven three-point attempts (57%).
Miller led all scorers with 21 points in just 30 minutes of action. She hit three-of-four three-point attempts on the evening. Burghardt totaled 18 points and 12 rebounds and freshman center Jessica Mentz (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored 13 point s and collected six rebounds.
Lynchburg was led by a trio of players, T.C. Deskins, Julie McClure, and Johanna Peeters, who scored 15 points each.
W&L will return to action on Thu., Jan. 14, when they play host to Hollins in another ODAC match-up. Tip time is set for 7:00 pm.
