LEXINGTON, Va. -- Johns Hopkins rolled up 454 yards of total offense, 262 yards through the air to defeat Washington and Lee, 43-23, in the season-opener for both teams.
The Blue Jays (1-0) did much of their damage in the second quarter, scoring four touchdowns to take a 29-10 lead going in at the half.
Junior tailback Donald Davis (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) provided much of the offensive spark for Hopkins, rushing for 54 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries. Junior quarterback Wayne Roccia (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) completed nine-of-14 at tempts for 163 yards and two touchdowns, while junior wide-out Sam Skinner (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) caught five passes for 119 yards and one score.
Washington and Lee (0-1) was paced offensively by junior quarterback Christian Batcheller (Stuart, Va./Patrick County), who completed 19-of-28 attempts for 230 yards and two touchdowns. Junior wide-out J.T. Malatesta (Washington, D.C./Landon) also caught eight passes for 124 yards and one touchdown.
Washington and Lee will resume its schedule on Saturday, September 19, when it travels to Greensboro, N.C. to face Guilford College.
