LEXINGTON, Va. -- Four players scored in double-figures to help lead Washington & Lee over Emory & Henry, 80-70, in ODAC men's basketball at the Warner Center on Wednesday evening.
W&L never trailed in the contest and shot 50 percent (13-26) in the first half to build a 34-26 halftime lead.
Emory & Henry closed the W&L lead to just one point (48-47) with 11:28 in the second half, but the Generals pulled away to surmount another double-digit lead (66-56) with 6:23 remaining.
The Wasps (5-2, 2-1) did not give in, however, as they again cut into the Generals (3-4, 2-1) lead, making it a three-point game (73-70) with just 1:07 remaining. W&L then reeled off seven-straight points to walk away with the 10-point victory.
W&L out-rebounded the Wasps, 44-31, in the contest and shot 37 free throws as opposed to 22 for E&H.
The Generals were led by junior center Rich Peterson (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull), who posted 16 points and 12 rebounds and freshman forward Bob Bustamante (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus), who posted career-highs in points (16) and rebounds (8). Sophomore guard Chad Braley (Huntington, W.Va./Paul Blazer) scored in double figures for the seventh-consecutive game this season, tallying 15 points and senior guard Kevin Cobbin (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School) chipped in with 12 points and three assists.
Emory & Henry was led by junior guard Justin Porterfield (Roanoke, Va./Northside), who scored 18 points and senior center Chris Barbour (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle), who tallied 15 points.
W&L will be in action again on Jan. 2, when it travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a 2:00 pm game.
