W&L Volleyball Wins ODAC Tournament Championship

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee Volleyball Team defeated fourth-seeded Roanoke College, 15-13, 15-7, 15-8, in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament and then defeated third seeded Eastern Mennonite, 9-15, 15-13, 17-15, 15-9, in the finals to win its second-straight ODAC Tournament Championship.

Against the Maroons (14-11), the Generals were led by freshman middle blocker Lindsay Ruckert (Metairie, La./Sacred Heart), who posted 14 kills, seven blocks, and 15 digs. Fellow classmate Lee Charbonnet (New Orleans, La./Benjamin Franklin) totaled 12 kills, four aces, and 13 digs, and sophomore setter Pam Saulsbury (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) amassed 27 assists.

In the final against Eastern Mennonite (15-14), the Generals (26-2) were paced by Ruckert, who totaled 21 kills and five blocks en route to Tournament MVP honors. Freshman Ricka Hildebrand (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute S. Vigo) had 15 kills, four blocks, and 13 digs, earning all-tournament team honors. Saulsbury totaled 55 assists, the second-highest total in school history.

W&L has now tied the school record for consecutive wins (16) and must wait to find out if it will receive its first ever NCAA Tournament bid. The Generals are currently ranked 8th in the South Region, with the top six teams receiving a tournament bid.
