LEXINGTON, Va. -- Fifth-seeded Hampden-Sydney ended fourth-seeded Washington and Lee's men's soccer season on Tuesday afternoon by defeating the Generals, 2-1, in double overtime in the quarterfinal round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.
The winning goal was scored by H-SC's freshman back Josh Dickens (Raleigh, N.C./ Leesville) off a corner kick with only 2:59 remaining in the second overtime.
The Generals took the lead 23:05 into the game when senior forward Sam Chase (Marietta, Ga./ Walton) scored on a header off a corner kick, his 12th goal of the season.
W&L held the 1-0 lead until 5:24 remained in regulation, when Sydney's sophomore back Trip Jendron (Columbia, S.C./ Spring Valley) scored to knot the game at 1-1 and eventually send the game into double overtime.
Hampden-Sydney will face the No. 1 seed Virginia Wesleyan in the semifinal round on Friday afternoon in Norfolk, Va.
