M&W Swimming Beats Drew, Fall to Swarthmore and Gettysburg

Madison, N.J. and Gettysburg, Pa. -- On Saturday afternoon, Washington and Lee's men's and women's swimming teams both defeated Drew and both fell to Swarthmore. The men won, 53-44 and lost, 53-42. The women won, 61-33 and lost 66-29. On Sunday, both teams lost at Gettysburg College. The men fell, 132-53. The women dropped a 124-59 decision.

On Saturday, the men were paced by junior Jared Fribush, who finished first in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle events against both Drew and Swarthmore. Sophomore Colin Hayes took first place in the 200 fly events.

The women were led by senior Margaret Hohel, who finished first in the 200, 500, and 1000 freestyle events. Junior Lauren Beckenhauer, freshman Caitlin FitzRandolph and senior Courtney Tyler all came in first in their events against Drew.

On Sunday, the men were led by Hayes who came in first in the 100 fly against Gettysburg. Hoehl led the women, by coming in first in the 200 and 500 free events.

The women continue action on Dec. 1, when they host Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 7:00. The men will next swim on Dec. 9, when they travel across town to face VMI at 6:00.
