LEXINGTON, VA -- Washington and Lee's men's soccer team nothced its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory of the season by defeating Guilford, 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at Liberty Hall Fields.
Senior Sam Chase (Marietta, Ga.) went over the 100-point mark for his career by scoring the first goal of the game 5:24 into the contest to give the Generals a 1-0 lead. The Quakers retaliated when senior Owen Finberg (Margaretville, N.Y./ Margaretville) tied the game at the 11:30 mark. Junior Jamie Parker (Pittsford, N.Y.) gave the Generals the lead back for good at the 18:34 mark. Senior back Mikel Parker (Marietta, Ga./ Walton) scored the first goal of his storied career at W&L to give the Generals a 4-1 lead that they would take into halftime. Freshman Matt Wilson (Manassas, Va./ Osbourn) scored his first two goals of his career to give the Generals their third and fifth goals, respectively. The Generals outshot Guilford, 18-4.
W&L goes back to work tomorrow when they host Savannah Art & Design (4-3-1) at Liberty Hall Fields. Kick-off will be at Noon. SCAD defeated Methodist on Saturday, 3-2 in overtime.
