SALEM, Va.--One hundred and twenty minutes of soccer wasn't enough to settle an ODAC men's soccer match between Roanoke College and Washington & Lee University on Wednesday afternoon. The arch-rivals played through regulation and two sudden-death overtim es without scoring a goal.
It was a wild match that was interrupted three minutes into the first half, when the sprinkler system came on. After the brief "rain" delay, the game clock stopped several more times for injuries and 10 yellow cards as the game finished well after sundow n (5:26 p.m.).
Roanoke outshot W&L 19-11 and had two goals waved off due to fouls.
Sophomore Jordan Ginsburg (Jackson, Mich/Jackson) came up huge for the Generals (10-2-3, 5-2-2) making nine saves, including three in overtime, in relief of senior E.J. Murphy (Glenside, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) who was yellow carded twice in the first 37 minutes of play.
Now finished with its ODAC slate, W&L plays at Salisbury State on October 31, before taking part in the first round of the ODAC Tournament on November 3. The Generals' opponent is yet to be determined.
