LEXINGTON, VA -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the Old Dominion Atletic Conferece Tournament on Tuesday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over Emory and Henry at Liberty Hall Fields.
The quarterfinal victory was sparked by senior forward Karin Treese (Frederick, Md./ Thomas Johnson) and freshman midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./ Escambia), who scored two goals a piece.
Treese and Bidwell both scored in the first half, helping the Generals to a 3-0 lead. They also were both part of a four-goal explosion in the first 14:14 of the second half, giving the Generals a 7-0 lead that they would not relinquish. W&L outshot the Wasps 39-1 in the contest.
The Generals will now host the 1998 ODAC women's soccer tournament which will begin on Friday morning, when the Generals face Roanoke in the semifinal round at 11:30. Roanoke defeated Guilford on Tuesday,2-0. The second game will feature Lynchburg and Randolph-Macon and begin at 2:00 p.m. The championship game will be on Saturday afternoon at 1:30.
