LEXINGTON, VA -- Washington and Lee's men's soccer team broke a school record on Saturday afternoon when they played their ninth consecutive game without a loss by defeating confernece-rival Randolph-Macon, 1-0 at Liberty Hall Fields. The Generals are 8-0-1 in the nine-game span.
W&L's junior midfielder Jamie Parker (Pittsford, N.Y./ Pittsford Sutherland) scored the only goal of the game at the 65:59 mark, when he followed two W&L shots that were saved by R-MC goalkeeper Michael Matson (Neptune, N.J./ Neptune) with a shot of his own that went in the net.
W&L goalkeeper E.J. Murphy (Glenside, Pa./ Chestnut Hill Academy) collected five big saves on nine R-MC shots for his seventh shutout of the season and sixth in the last seven games.
The victory marks the third consecutive season that W&L has registered double figures in the win column. This is the first time in W&L history that such an occasion has occured.
The Generals will look to extend their streak when they visit arch-rival Roanoke on Wednesday afternoon. Kick-off will be at 3:00.
