Lexington, Va. -- Washington and Lee's women's soccer team outshout Emory and Henry 42-1 en route to a 10-0 conference victory on Thursday afternoon at Liberty Hall Fields.
After a scoreless first 22:17 of the game, the Generals went on a six-goal onslaught in a period of 20:54 to close out the first half. W&L scattered four goals in the second half, as it cruised to the 10-0 victory.
Senior forward Karin Treese (Frederick, Md./ Thomas Johnson) led the way for the Generals by scoring three goals, her third "hat trick" of the season. Junior forward Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./ Dr. Phillips) scored two goals, as well as sophomore midfielder Courtney Nolan (Princeton, N.J./ Princeton).
The Generals will return to Liberty Fields on Saturday morning at 11:30 to face Randolph-Macon. A General victory would clinch W&L's first Old Dominion Athletic Conference regular season title since 1990. The Generals would then host the final two rounds of the ODAC Tournament on October 30 and 31 at Liberty Hall Fields. Saturday also will be "senior day," in which the program will honor senior tri-captains Elizabeth Richey (Durham, N.C./ Durham Academy), Nicole Johnson (Cream Ridge, N.J./ Notre Dame), and Treese, the program's all-time leading scorer.
