W&L Beats Denison 1-0 In Record Setting Fashion

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Washington and Lee men's soccer won its sixth-straight game on Thursday evening by defeating Denison University, 1-0. The Generals have now tied the school record for consecutive wins.

The Generals (8-2-1) scored the game's only goal at the 57:59 mark when junior midfielder Jamie Parker (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) scored off a rebound from a shot by senior Sam Chase (Marietta, Ga./Walton) that hit the post.

Senior goalkeeper E.J. Murphy (Glenside, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) posted three saves in goal for the Generals, notching his fourth-straight shutout and the 13th of his career, a new school record.

With the loss, Denison fell to 5-8 on the season.

W&L will look to break the school record for consecutive victories when they face neighboring Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, October 17 at 1:00 pm. The game was originally scheduled to take place at Brewbaker field but has been moved to VMI's soccer facility.
