LYNCHBURG, VA -- Freshman midfielder Kate Bidwell (Pensacola, Fla./Escambia) scored an unassisted goal with 78:58 gone-by to help lift Washington and Lee to a 2-1 victory over Lynchburg College in ODAC women's soccer.
The loss was just the second on the year for Lynchburg (14-2-1) and their first ODAC defeat (7-1) since the 1996 season.
Bidwell opened the scoring for W&L when she received an assist from senior forward Karin Treese (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) and found the back of the net just 7:30 into the game to put the Generals up 1-0. The Hornets then knotted the score at 1-1 wh en sophomore midfielder Kerrie Swarts scored an unassisted goal 15:30 into the contest. The two teams would then play scoreless until Bidwell's game-winner.
Sophomore Lauren Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) made five saves in goal for the Generals. Lynchburg outshot W&L (7-2, 6-1) 14-7 and each team was awarded seven corner kicks.
The Generals will be in action again on Saturday, October 17, when they travel to the College of Notre Dame for a 1:00 pm match.
