SWEET BRIAR, VA -- Washington and Lee recorded their fifth consecutive shutout to begin the 1998 season by defeating Sweet Briar, 1-0 on Thursday afternoon at Sweet Briar.
Sophomore midfielder Shana Levine (Hudson, Ohio/ Hudson) scored the game's only goal at the 24-minute mark off a header. She received assists from sophomore midfielder Liz Olson (Brookfield, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Drew Powers (Atlanta, Ga./ The Lovett School).
The Generals outshot the Vixens by a 36-0 margin. W&L had nine corner kicks while holding Sweet Briar to only one. The five consecutive shutouts to start a season ties a team record that was set in 1990 and again in 1993.
W&L will attempt to break the record on Saturday afternoon, when they host Guilford at Liberty Hall Fields. Kick-off is at 3:00.
